Noise Cancellation Headphones – New Technology Emerges
For me the most annoying part of listening to music on headphones is background noise. I have to commute to work on the train and there is a lot of background noise. Noise from traffic, noise from the train, noise from other passengers yelling into cell phones at 7:00 AM, you know what I’m talking about.
At home this noise can be lawnmowers, screaming kids, air conditionerss, fans, the television in the background, etc. There are endlless sources of noise that can ruin our listening experience. Because of this problem, noise cancellation heapphones were invented. Now all we have to do is flick a switch on the headphones and suddely all goes quiet. It’s great to listen to out favorite music without background noises getting in the way.
Noise cancellation headphones are a great theory but in actually using them, experiences differ. The are good noise cancellation headphones and bad ones. The bad ones really sound terrible and ony mute the outside noise a little bit and require a lot of battery power. For a pair to work perfectly, all of the components must be in order. The lower the quality on any one component, the less effective the noise cancellation will be.
Lets talk about how these headphones work. Basically the headset has a small circuit inside it that samples the outside noise. It then creates the exaxct opposite noise and plays it through the headphones along with the music. You do not hear anything but pure music because the outside sound is mixed with the noise caneling circuit noise and they are supposed to effectively cancel each other out.
Headsets differ in how effective they actually are. Another point worth saying is that the higher price of some units doesn’t neccessarily mean better performance. Some are really expensive but do not work better than cheaper units. I only suggest trying them on at a store first. If you like them and they work, then shop online to buy for the best price.
The last point to consider when buying a pair of noise cancellation headphones is to check how long the batteries last. If you aren’t getting at least twenty plus hours on one set of batteries, you will be spending a lot of extra money. Also condier rechargeable batteries if the set you like the most requires a lot of juice.
